Good oral health habits begin as soon as the first tooth appears. Brush your child’s teeth twice a day with a small, soft toothbrush and the correct amount of fluoride toothpaste for their age.
Children should be supervised while brushing until they can clean every surface confidently on their own. Encourage them to spit out toothpaste after brushing without rinsing, so the fluoride can continue to protect their teeth.
Keep sugary foods and drinks to mealtimes and offer water or milk between meals. Frequent snacking on sugary foods gives bacteria more opportunities to produce the acids that cause tooth decay.
Regular dental visits from an early age help children become comfortable in the practice. They also allow the dental team to monitor development and offer preventive advice as your child grows.
